On Thursday, July 30, the SEMI Program held its year-ending reception dinner at the Westin New York at Times Square. Students, mentors, and past participants all took part in the festivities celebrating the end of another successful SEMI season.
At the event, NYSSA Student Committee Chair Virginia Donner announced the winning team of the SteepleChase Competition and thanked all students and mentors for coming.
The winning team included: Liljana Xheka, Baruch College; Joseph Tinti, Fordham University; Mai Pham, Hofstra University; and Jueun (June) Choi, New York University.
“To jump start a career in the field of finance given today’s competitive landscape, I believe it’s essential for anyone to broaden their skill set and knowledge beyond the college curriculum,” said Liljana Xheka, a student at Baruch College. “The SEMI program has the right blend of resources available to students to achieve this through mentoring, educational sessions and internship opportunities. I feel privileged to have been part of this developmental program and to have won the Steeplechase competition. I can’t stress enough how influential all the mentors have been and how rewarding this experience is. It all started as a summer program––it resulted in the discovery of my career path.”
The SEMI Program stands for Scholarship, Education, Mentoring and Internship and is open to undergraduate students with an interest in finance.
