NYSSA Announces December 2011 CFA Scholarship Winners

NYSSA is pleased to announce the winners of the December 2011 CFA Exam Scholarship Program. NYSSA offers up to five scholarships in both the fall and spring to New York–area CFA candidates. Recipients are selected based on experience and/or interest in the investment profession, ethical standards, and commitment to NYSSA and CFA Institute. This period's candidates were very impressive, as noted by one Scholarship Committee member, "We were extremely pleased with the calibur of applicants." Scholarship winners receive Schweser study materials, free NYSSA CFA weekly review, and discounted registration fees.
DECEMBER 2011 CFA EXAM SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
Vy Bui holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of New Mexico and an MBA degree in Financial Management from Pace University. Vy passed all four parts of the Uniform CPA Examination while pursuing her MBA degree. She passed all parts of the CPA exam on the first try. Currently, she is an auditor at Buchbinder Tunick & Company LLP, a CPA firm which provides a wide range of accounting and financial services. Vy‘s past work experience at Goldman Sachs & Co. and Bank of New York Mellon provided her valuable knowledge and great exposure to the investment community. When asked why she is pursuing a CFA designation, she responded, “I believe that the CFA designation will advance my career tremendously by providing additional tools and knowledge to better serve different types of clients in reaching their investment goals, to promote greater understanding of global capital market, and to encourage others to act in ethical and professional manners.”
Mingle Huang graduated with honors from Rutgers University, New Brunswick Campus, with a bachelor's degree in accounting and a minor in economics in 2009. He has been working as an auditor in PricewaterhouseCoopers' asset management group since 2009, planning and performing audits of various entities including hedge funds, fund-of-funds, and private equity. His responsibilities include testing of all financial statement line items and notes to the financial statements, as well as interpretation and compliance with GAAP required language and presentation. “The CFA program offers a comprehensive and systematic training of professional knowledge; therefore, achieving [sic]CFA charter will broaden my industry knowledge so that I can service clients better. I am always passionate about obtaining new knowledge and have determination to make efforts to achieve [sic]CFA charter.”
Pratibha Rajbhandari is currently pursuing an MBA degree in financial management at Pace University. Besides working as a business advisor in Pace University’s Small Business Development Center, and running her non-profit initiative “SAGE” to help South Asian Entrepreneurs, she serves as president of Pace Graduate Finance Club. “I discovered my passion for investment research while managing an investment fund during my undergraduate degree at Idaho State University, and have continuously been working on increasing my knowledge in the area. I think the breadth of topics covered in the CFA curriculum prepares an investment professional to take any challenges, by imparting analytical skills and high ethical standards. This is why I am committed to get my CFA designation,” she commented on the CFA charter.
Godwin Okoli is a graduate of Oberlin College. Godwin is currently pursuing a postbaccalaureate certificate in business from Columbia University. Most recently, Mr. Okoli was a principal of a Web-based company. Previously, he worked as an analyst at The Riverside Company, a middle-market private equity firm.
Corey Perlmutter is an MBA graduate from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Corey has been an active personal investor since age 15. He is currently an independent consultant for hedge funds and investment banks in the risk-management technology space, through his firm, Analytiq Consulting. Corey also holds a masters in electrical engineering from Columbia University. “I am pursuing the CFA designation not only to develop depth of knowledge across a wide range of relevant disciplines, but also to emphasize my dedication to professionalism and integrity in the world of finance.”
